OnionCam

Innovative Onion Inspection with OnionCam

The optical sorting machine called OnionCam photographs the onions after singulation has taken place. Due to the rolling effect on the V-belt and diabolo rollers, all sides of an onion are clearly visible. Sharp imaging and innovative image recognition software enable more precise selection of onions. As a result, rotten onions, misshapen onions, or onions with other defects are better filtered out.

Advantages:

  • 360° view of each individual onion;
  • not only top cameras, but also side cameras;
  • 16 different digital photos of the product;
  • Artificial Intelligence is used to recognize defects in onions;
  • the OnionCam is equipped with 12 rows;
  • a V-belt followed by diabolo rollers;
  • capacity of 15-25 tons per hour depending on the size sorting;
  • various exits possible based on detected defects;
  • optional module: Near-Infrared Technology (NIR) to control for internal defects.

Customer experiences:

Ajuin BV:

'We were one of the first in the Netherlands to use the OnionCam, and we're still happy with that decision every day. With our previous machine, we increasingly noticed that for each batch, many complex settings had to be adjusted to achieve reasonable sorting.

The OnionCam is easy to set up, and you can see exactly what is removed per defect. We can now better sort complex defects such as mold around the roots of imported onions. This gives us more possibilities and extra savings on labor.

It was also truly an adventure, because discovering together how a machine can be optimally adjusted and how you can teach the software to recognize defects is still something special to me. In the beginning, there were problems with the mechanical parts. We then provided solutions, and together with TechNature's ideas, they were able to solve this.

Conclusion: TechNature and their machines do more for your business than you might suspect at the time of purchase. And if you're interested in an OnionCam? Don't forget to discuss the options, because there's even more to be gained with those.'
