BeanCam

Efficient Work with TechNature's BeanCam

The increasing popularity of plant-based proteins led to the development of the BeanCam. As a bean grower - and especially when you grow organically - the pressure is constantly increasing to deliver both larger volumes and higher quality products. The BeanCam reduces manual work and increases the quality level.

Advantages:

  • the BeanCam is used to recognize bean-specific defects such as mold, rot, breakage, a too thin or too curved bean;
  • the sorting machine positions the beans so that images are taken from all sides;
  • image processing software compares each individual bean based on programmed information;
  • existing and new diseases are detected through Artificial Intelligence and Deep-Learning technologies. The computer continues to learn and doesn't stop developing at the moment of purchase;
  • the statistical data provides information on the type of defect and in percentage;
  • the BeanCam can replace up to four employees, making the payback period short.

Customer experiences:

"Our bean company uses various methods during cultivation to guarantee the organic label. This means we don't use chemical agents. It wasn't that long ago that we had umpteen people standing at that conveyor belt in this space during the harvest season. Every season there were a few new employees, and every season you had to teach them again what to look for. It was the only way to learn how to distinguish a healthy and saleable bean from an unhealthy bean that no one wants to eat.

We were therefore happy with the arrival of the BeanCam. What a relief! The machine scans each bean and separates according to our settings. Those settings are not difficult to adjust, by the way. To give you an example: at the end of the bean season, due to less daylight, the beans are not always of the same quality as at the beginning of the season.

The supermarkets are also somewhat less critical, and it's nice that we can adjust the settings depending on the time of year. This way we can still sell good and tasty beans, and less is lost.

With the various diseases, it remains a learning process for now how we as organic growers can deal with them. The demand for high-quality beans has increased sharply recently, so we are continuously looking for ways to improve. The BeanCam supports us in this. We don't know exactly how it works in that computer, but the self-learning ability of the device is wonderful. We get an overview of what was wrong with the past sorting and can distill a conclusion and action plan from that. TechNature's BeanCam makes large-scale bean cultivation fun and challenging again - and of course profitable."
