Accurate rose selection with TechNature's IRISS
At the end of 2014, rose growers raised the alarm: The processing and sorting of roses MUST be done differently. The question to TechNature and collaboration partners for this project:
'How can the processing and sorting of roses be done not only more accurately, but also more easily?'
This question from practice was the driving force behind the development of IRISS - the Intelligent Rose Inspection and Sorting System.
TechNature's IRISS: Precision and quality
It is the first system that can sort bunches of roses based on uniformity in quality. This is made possible by combining expertise in Vision Technology with specific image processing software. The IRISS consists of multiple cameras that make 3-D images. The first camera is focused on the bud and measures the bud height, bud width, color, tilt, and openness (ripeness) of the rose to the millimeter. The second camera is focused on the stem and measures the length, thickness, and curvature of the stem. The photos lead to specific data on which automatic sorting can be based.
